NODDER & SHAW: THE TEIRA BATFISH - Angelfish print
This beautiful rare original hand coloured copperplate engraving of a Teira Batfish (angelfish), is from George Shaw and Frederick Nodder's monumental work, "The Naturalist's Miscellany: or coloured figures of natural objects; drawn and described immediately from nature.'
Published in London from 1790 – 1813, this monumental twenty-four volume compendium was celebrated by seventeenth and eighteenth century naturalists around the globe. Author, George Shaw, provided and edited the details for over 1000 species, and Frederick P. Nodder, a ‘botanical painter to her Majesty,’ and his son Richard, supplied, engraved and published the 1064 beautiful plates.
