DONOVAN - CONCHOLOGY - MARBLED CONE shell print 1822 - 1827

This very beautiful, original hand coloured shell engraving, is from the conchology section of Edward Donovan’s, "The Naturalist’s Repository of Exotic Natural History," published in London between 1822 and 1827.

Donovan was a talented artist, an avid natural history collector, and fellow of the Linnaean Society and the Wernerian Natural History Society. He also opened his own private museum in 1807, the London Museum and Institute of Natural History.

These gorgeous shell illustrations are noted for their exceptional hand colouring.
