This beautiful, rare first edition hand coloured stipple steel engraving, is from Louis Charles Kiener's exquisitely illustrated 12 volume iconography, "Species général et iconographie des coquilles vivantes," (General species and iconography of recent shells). Published in Paris between 1834 and 1879.

Louis Charles Kiener (1799 - 1882) was a French malacologist, and curator of the natural history collections of Baron J. P. B. Delessert in Lyon.
