ATKINSON / SOUTHERLAND: RUSSIAN WINTER FISHERY 1813 fishing print

£40.00

This fine rare aquatint engraving a Russian Winter Fishery, with original hand colouring by Atkinson and Southerland, is from Thomas Williamson’s “Foreign Field Sports, Fisheries, Sporting Anecdotes,” published in London by Edward Orme, print seller to his Majesty in 1813.

The vibrant evocative illustrations contained in this work included fishing, whaling, big game hunting and horse racing in North America, Germany, Lapland, Spain, Russia, India, Asia and Africa.

The plates “are without question the most attractive and sympathetic of the early European depictions of the native inhabitants.”

(Australian Rare Books p. 280).
