These very beautiful colour lithographs, drawn and painted by Albin Mesnel with original hand finishing, are from the rare first edition of “La Pêches et les Poissons” by French naturalist, Henri de La Blanchère. Published in Paris in 1868.

These exquisite fish plates were lithographed after the author’s photographs, making La Pêches et les Poissons one of the earliest natural history books to be produced in this way. (Ref. Nissen, Fischbücher, 16; Nissen ZBI, 2334; Dean, Bibl. of Fishes, vol. 3 p 1.)

condition:Overall very good, some plates may vary slightly in toning. Minor remnants of tissue guard line near top of margin - out of matting/framing area.
