OECONOMISCHE NATURGESCHICHTE DER FISCHE DEUTSCHLANDS. 1783 – 1787 Berlin.

This very rare Bloch octavo print of a starry globefish is from what is regarded as the most beautiful fish book ever published.

Each specimen was engraved on a copper plate and then hand-coloured with watercolours. Many were heightened with gold, silver, and bronze to reproduce the wonderful metallic sheen of the fish scales.

The results are truly spectacular and the prints today are some of the most highly desired and collectable of all natural history illustrations.
