TODD - CONCHOLOGY: SEA SNAILS, PERIWINKLES, DRILLS & BORERS print 1884 - 1887

£24.00

This striking engraving of sea snails, periwinkles, drills, and borers, is from the beautifully illustrated and historically important "Fisheries and Fishery Industries of the United States," a multi-volume enterprise published by the U.S. Fish Commission from 1884 - 1887.

The renowned ichthyologist, George Brown Goode, headed a large scientific team to research and write this work, describing marine life and their life histories, fishing equipment and methods, fisheries statistics, and fish culture and propagation.

With fine recent professional handcolouring, these superbly detailed drawings by H. L. Todd were based mainly on living specimens or samples at the U.S. National Museum.
